A temporary restraining order (TRO) has halted the implementation of the P85 daily wage hike for minimum wage earners in Metro Manila. Labor leader Sonny Matula said this effectively deprives each worker of P1,560 in additional annual income. This directly affects the daily living of minimum wage earners in Quezon City and across Metro Manila, as they lose out on much-needed income amid rising costs. It also raises concerns about the influence of construction firms that have secured billions in government contracts from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The TRO was issued by a court, preventing the wage order from taking effect. The firms that filed the petition for the TRO are reportedly the same companies that have received billions of pesos in DPWH infrastructure contracts.
