SALEX Expressway Faces Criticism Over Traffic, Health, Heritage
Transportation advocates have released new research and a map highlighting the potential negative impacts of the proposed SALEX expressway, including worsened traffic, health risks, and heritage loss in Metro Manila. The project, a 40.62-kilometer elevated and shoreline expressway, is currently under construction, with clearing operations underway for its Manila segment. This issue directly affects Quezon City and Metro Manila residents, as the expressway could alter daily commutes, increase air pollution, and damage cultural heritage sites. Understanding these concerns helps residents make informed decisions and participate in public discourse about urban development. The SALEX project is divided into four sections: C3-R10 Extension, Shoreline Expressway, Quirino Extension, and Buendia Extension. The Manila segment, spanning 3.97 kilometers, will pass through Quirino Avenue, San Marcelino Street, and Roxas Boulevard, with construction led by SMC SALEX.
